Event summary

Hosted by the Barbara and Norman Tanner Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy, together with co-sponsoring units and organisations, this second annual conference on human rights, conflict resolution, nonviolence, and peace will focus on Migration, Rights, and Identities: Examining the Range of Local and Global Needs.

The conference will consider questions such as:

  • coerced to voluntary forms of migration;
  • analyses of structural bases for migration;
  • treatments of tensions between migrating groups as well as between those groups and new communities/regions/nations;
  • scrutiny of various attempts (including sometimes violent ones) by nations to restrict immigration;
  • attention to effects of migration on individuals and groups;
  • relationships to questions of identities along the lines of ethnic, linguistic, religious, class, gender, age, and other groupings;
  • critiques of images surrounding migration and migrating groups; and examinations of the rights of all parties involved.
