Description

"Kasetsart University, established in 1943, is a public university located in Chatuchack District, Bangkok, Thailand.

Presently, there are fourteen faculties and the Faculty of Agriculture is one of the leaders in its field. The Department of Agricultural Extension and Communication is one of the nine departments of this faculty.

There are more than 3,000 graduates who have M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from this faculty and many of them are scientists, who are well known nationally and internationally. The Faculty of Agriculture has offered a Master of Science in Agriculture since 1960 and doctoral degree in Agriculture Science since 1977.

In 1992, the Department of Agricultural Extension and Communication initiated the Master of Science Program in Development Communication (International programme) to enhance this expanding field of development."

Programmes

  1. M.Sc. in Development Communication - The program consists of course work and a thesis paper or independent study. English is the medium of instruction.

    A graduate student must take a minimum of 38 credits of course work. "This curriculum adheres to the science-orientedness of development communication. The idea being emphasized is that a development communicator should not only know how to communicate but also what to communicate." Students of this programme will be trained to "design, plan, implement and evaluate communication programs and material in support to national development plans particularly in various areas of agricultural and rural development, extension other concerns in industry, nutrition, education and communication within the scientific community." The programme objectives are:
    1. "To provide advance training in the application of communication theories, principles, and techniques to promote national development.
    2. To train manpower working in government and private communication agencies.
    3. To promote development communication researches.
    4. To provide a mechanism for the design, production and utilization of graduate instructional materials in development communication applicable in developing countries.
    5. To engage in an academic faculty and student exchange program in development communication with other universities under the SEARCA University Consortium program where Kasetsart University is a member.
