impact data - Can Suyu TV Series - TurkeySummaryTelevision soap opera on social and health issues Examples from most recent independent evaluation -1993 Access: 52% of respondents said that they had seen “Can Suyu”, 87% knew the programme by name, the other 13% knew it by example. Of the 52% of he people who viewed Can Suyu, 12% watched watched all episodes, 29% watched most of them, 19% watched a few episodes. 98% of the people who watched Can Suyu liked it. Increased discussion of development issues: 62% said that they talked about Can Suyu at home, 85% would recommend the program to a friend. Knowledge Shifts: When asked “What have you learned from Can Suyu?”, 42% said ways of handling children, 9% said ways of family planning, 14% said the importance of cleanliness, 14% said cautions to be taken in case of diarrhea, 17% said cautions to be taken in case of fever, 9% said the risks of receiving help from midwifes. (This was a sample from more questions which were asked) Practices: When asked “Did anything change at home because of Can Suyu?”, 45% said yes. When asked more specifically, 21% said ways of handling child diseases, 14% said health/cleanliness gained importance, 7% observed the importance of receiving medical help.
