Telecentre Knowledge Network Wiki

Summary

The Telecentre Knowledge Network is an editable and evolving reference wiki (a resource to which any user may contribute new material as well as edit what is posted - in this case, registration is necessary in order to engage in editing) about building and sustaining telecentres. This wiki discusses issues facing the global telecentre movement, presents a condensed view of the knowledge about telecentres, and offers activists a place to share the knowledge and wisdom that comes from running telecentres. The initial content for this wiki was drawn from "Making the CONNECTION: Scaling Telecenters for Development", written by the Academy for Educational Development (AED) with assistance from Microsoft and telecentre.org.

The website is organised into the following categories of information, some of which reorganise the same material according to divergent content topics:
  • "Articles - encyclopaedia-like entries about topics relevant to telecentres (for example, connectivity);
  • Case studies - examples of initiatives that illustrate points about establishing and sustaining telecentres ([for example,] one on UgaBYTES);
  • Country profiles - accounts of telecentre initiatives in a particular country, such as... one about Bulgaria;
  • Tools for planners - resources that encourage systematic thinking for planning telecentres, like... one about investigating your situation and your options;"
  • "Making the CONNECTION contents" - presents the material in an order similar to the contents of the book "Making the CONNECTION: Scaling Telecenters for Development":
    1. An evolving vision of telecentres for development
    2. Learning from experience
    3. Analyzing the local ICT environment in rural and underserved areas
    4. Identifying appropriate organizational models
    5. Ensuring sustainability and impact through relevant services and contents
    6. Identifying appropriate technologies
    7. Using networks to strengthen telecentres
    8. From organic to programmatic approach - Paths to scaling up
    9. Making it your own
    10. Conclusion - Learning, looking ahead, and keeping an eye on the ball
  • All entries - an alphabetical listing of all entries.
