Drawing Insight: Communicating Development Through Animation

Author

Joyce Greene and Deborah Reber (eds.)

Summary

In 1994, world class animators, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) representatives, and animation industry leaders met in Orlando, Florida for a Second Animation for Development Workshop and Summit. As a result of this workshop, a book and video, both entitled Drawing Insight, were produced.

The book presents the success stories of various broadcast and non-broadcast development communication and non-formal education programmes which drew on the power of animation to promote the well being of children. Experiences covered range from UNICEF's productions in Bangladesh, the Caribbean and Somalia to models including the Children's Television Workshop, ASIFA and Nickelodeon.
