Lung Health Image Library (LHIL)

Summary

Launched by the World Lung Foundation, a United States-based sister organisation of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, this online Library is a searchable database of thousands of high and low resolution photographs relating to tuberculosis, TB/HIV, health workers, patients, community health education, and social mobilisation for lung health. Any nonprofit organisation working in the field of lung health may access and download the images for free. Users can search the library by particular lung health topics; by country or region; or by thematic secondary categories, such as poverty, women, and treatment.

The images may be used by journalists to illustrate news stories, to educate the general public or patients as part of a health promotion campaign, to describe programme activities undertaken by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), or to convey key messages as part of advocacy efforts. Linked resources on the World Lung Foundation website guide users in how they may effectively use the images.

The Library was formerly the Stop TB Image Library, and it was hosted by the Stop TB Partnership in Geneva. The World Lung Foundation has assumed stewardship, and, together with the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, they have expanded the image scope and numbers. They continue to actively seek new image contributions.
