Mainstreaming ICTs: Africa Lives the Information Society

Publication Date

December 1, 2005

Summary

This handbook is a contribution towards efforts to bridge the "policy-practice" divide. It is meant for development practitioners and information and communication technology (ICT) innovators interested in inventive technology applications for social justice and development. It contains ten case studies highlighting ways in which ICTs have been used to promote people-centred development in sub-Saharan Africa.

The collection also features five toolkits which offer resources for civil society groups wanting to utilise ICTs for developmental initiatives. The toolkits centre on technology planning, open source migration, information security and privacy, gender evaluation methodologies, and community wireless networking.
