Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Kit

Summary

According to the publication, because of the emergence of new influenza subtypes and the recurrence of human cases of avian influenza (avian flu or bird flu) infections in Asia, public health experts are stating that nations should be well-prepared for a possible influenza pandemic. Developed in Hong Kong in line with the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization, this kit depicts various response levels and a series of corresponding public health measures. It also provides basic information on preparedness. The kit aims to enhance public awareness of influenza pandemic, so that preventive actions can be taken.

The first section provides background knowledge about what normal influenza and avian influenza are. It discusses the causes of influenza pandemics and why this is being considered a serious threat. The second section discusses the potential impact of the next influenza pandemic and likely responses. The last section includes practical tips and 8 steps that can be done to protect oneself.
