NGO-in-a-box: Security Edition

Publication Date

September 2005

Summary

The security version of NGO-in-a-box (sBox), developed by the Tactical Technology Collective and Frontline, is designed predominantly for human rights, anti-corruption, and womens groups, independent media and journalists. Its purpose is to help these groups, and those who work as trainers and technical support with these groups, to orient themselves with the kinds of security and protection tools they could use and the ability to easily access and try them out. This boxset is made of three CDs and printed manual.

The manual describes in detail how to use selected programmes and make the most of them. Concepts relating to usage of the programmes - from keeping computers free of viruses to the latest methods of cryptology, are introduced and explained. The manual is divided into chapters, each covering a particular programme. After the programme chapters, there is general information on using computers, installing and uninstalling programmes and a guide on removable storage. At the end, there is a glossary that lists and defines technical terms used throughout the manual.

CDs are:

Each section has a brief introduction, guides to understanding the security methodologies, and the programmes themselves.
