Guide to Equality in the Family in the MaghrebPublication DateOctober 2005 SummaryThe Guide to Equality in the Family in the Maghreb was developed by a coalition of women's organisations from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. It was developed to be used as an advocacy tool for reform of family law in Muslim-majority societies. According to the publication, "family law in Muslim-majority societies governs every aspect of a woman’s life - from minimum age and conditions of marriage, to divorce, child custody, and the right to work, travel, or decide on a place of residence. The reform of family law is therefore crucial to women's ability to participate on equal terms in both family life and the public arena."
The Guide presents the current state of the law, then proposes religious, human rights, sociological, and domestic legal arguments for reform. Click here for more information on the publication. PublisherNumber of Pages207 pages LanguagesEnglish ContactWomen's Learning Partnership (WLP)

By any civic, moral and legal yardsticks, the expansion of transnational/global knowledge and research should not be blocked/checked or spied by the administrative means. The new western technologies are being used to make an unwarranted ghetto between the developing and the developed world- a measure that is against all the fundamental norms/rights for which the Western/ governments/ civil societies do claim to be the defenders or champions.
