Summary

This issue of the News From ICCVOS newsletter provides articles on media designed both for and about children; violence in the media; media education; and regulatory measures and concerns in countries around the world. [Note: In 2004, the News From ICCVOS newsletter was renamed News on Children, Youth and Media in the World.]

Topics covered in this issue:
  • Children's Media Use, including articles on why "tweens" need their own programming, and the state of research on children and media in Turkey.
  • Media Violence, containing a discussion of the relationship between violent content and aggressive behaviour, and a summary of United States research on the impact of media violence on the brain.
  • Media's Image of Children, including an overview of print coverage of children's issues in Nepal and a description of a South African project to monitor how children and children's rights are represented in the news.
  • Media Education/Media Literacy, containing articles on media education efforts in Europe and North America
