Summary

This text provides both an outline of social learning theories and practical advice for organising adult environmental education programmes. It includes ideas for organising workshops, community meetings, or adult education classes, and draws on the experiences of the authors in facilitating such activities.

This book provides:
  • principles of feminist, popular and environmental education and a discussion on adult education
  • principles of the theory and practice of environmental adult education
  • ideas for organising workshops/community meetings and/or adult education classes within an ecological context
  • 50 pages of hands-on practical activities that stimulate critical and creative thinking, use nature and the community as teachers and sites of learning or ‘place’, weave environmental, cultural, economic, political and social issues, examine local and global issues, and deal with a diversity of issues from soil erosion to healthy food, consumerism to gender oppression, women’s knowledge, and environmental racism
  • introductory activities, evaluation activities, action-oriented activities
  • a section of activities from Australia, Philippines, Fiji, Canada and Hong Kong
  • a list of feminist, adult and environmental adult education resources and organisations from around the world
