Maitu ni Ma Iitu (Our Mother is Our Truth) [CD]

Author

Gatua wa Mbugwa

Publication Date

March 17 2005

Summary

This debut CD has 15 edutainment poems, which include music, singing and drumming. These poems were written to celebrate Maitu, “the mother and truth of the village children, Kenya people’s traditional knowledge, and Kenya”. . The artist aims to promote the growth of the Gĩkũyũ language by selling his poetry CD online on a Gĩkũyũ and English website and to generally encourage internet surfing in African languages. The author’s website provides 40-second samples of his poetry.

The artist believes that only African solutions are pertinent to African issues. He believes that African languages are an under-utilised resource and are to be as central to African development as European languages have been to the development of Europe and North America.
