Stop Excision [CD]Publication Date2000 SummaryThis is a tool used by Project Stop Excision to educate and raise awareness of the consequences of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and the movement underway to stop it. This CD contains Malian artists singing out against female genital mutilation and for other women's rights.
The organisers maintain that the artists who sing on the album are very well known in Mali and that the songs are heard on radio in Mali. The CD contains eight songs against FGM and are written in five languages, Bambara, Senoufo, Pulaar, Dogon and Sarakole. They are: O Magni (It's Bad) by Amy Koita (in Bambara), Tukore (Excision) by Neba Solo (in Senoufo), Anka Fo "Ante" (Let's Decide To Say "No") by Kandia Kouyaté, Bural (Let's Never Be The Last Ones) by Aly Baba Cissé (in Pulaar), Sariya (The Law) by The Zotto Boys with the Skankin' Brothers (in Bambara), Aranoin Edula (Excision Is Not Good) by Aly Bodel (in Dogon), 7. N' Farikolo (My Body) by Fantani Touré (in Bambara), and Takhoundi (Excision) by Nayine Koné (in Sarakole). Action against FGC is now widespread in Africa and, in 1993, FGC was declared a human rights violation by international legal institutions. Click hereto purchase this CD online.
