April 1, 2001

Summary

This chartbook offers a compilation of data and analysis on adolescents in 11 sub-Saharan countries: Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mozambique, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The chartbook examines the factors that are critical for young people's healthy transition to adulthood: education and exposure to information; sexual experience and marriage; HIV/AIDS; childbearing; contraception; and maternal health. The report aims to provide decision makers with a better understanding of the experiences and needs of adolescents in the region, and to inform public debates on these issues.
