HIV/AIDS and Education

Summary

Published by UNESCO in 2003, this Toolkit aims to promote HIV/AIDS preventive education and to increase understanding of the relationship between HIV/AIDS and education and the impact of HIV/AIDS on the system among people working in the education sector, especially mid- to senior level officials in Ministries of Education.

A central message is that the education sector has a crucial role to play in the national response to the epidemic, ie. that HIV/AIDS prevention should not be left only to the health sector.

It includes "easy-to-use" information sheets, a fact sheet, case studies, a glossary, a collection of references and links, as well as a Powerpoint slide presentation to enable the readers to pass on information to their colleagues and counterparts.

According to author Jan Wijngaarden, the Toolkit was reviewed and updated in 2004 and was adapted in the following countries during 2003-4: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Viet Nam, Indonesia, China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Bangladesh. Adaptation workshops are planned for Thailand, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India for 2005.

It is available for download online or in CD-ROM format. Click here for access to all 21 parts of this publication for PDF download.
