Workplace Guide for Managers and Labor LeadersPublication Date2004 SummaryPublished by AED (Academy for Educational Development), the Workplace Guide aims to provide a thorough, step-by-step approach to help workplaces respond effectively to HIV/AIDS. The Guide is available online on the SMARTWork website.
The Workplace Guide describes how to create an HIV/AIDS workplace policy and programme with the full involvement of both business and labor representatives. "Though it can be difficult to bring business and labor representatives to the table, doing so creates the best potential for workplace programs to be comprehensive, credible to workers, and sustained over time." In addition to the Workplace Guide, there are many other tools and resources available on the SMARTWork website including sample workplace posters and IEC/BCC (information, education, and communication, or behavior change communication) educational materials, company policies, and country studies. "Since 2001, when SMARTWork was launched with funding from the United States Department of Labor (DOL) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the program has assisted business managers, labor representatives, and regular workers from dozens of organisations to establish policies and programs that are reaching and benefiting tens of thousands of workers." Although it is currently available only in English, it will soon be available in Spanish, French, Russian, and Vietnamese. PublisherLanguagesEnglish ContactMatthew W Roberts, Ph.D.
