Writing for Change

Summary

A training resource designed for those working in the not-for-profit sector including researchers, scientists, project managers, team members, campaigners, fundraisers, social activists and writers to assist in further developing writing skills.

It contains sections devoted to the core skills of writing, and also to two specialised areas of writing - scientific papers for publication in journals and documents to help campaign or persuade.

Comprised of three sections:
  • Core skills - aims to develop the skills needed to write clearly and purposefully, organise ideas and express them well. Sections include:
    Introduction
    Creating a Message
    Organizing your Ideas
    Writing a First Draft
    Effective Editing
  • Writing for Science - outlines how to produce writing for publication in specialist journals. Sections include:
    Defining the Concept
    Preparing an Outline
    Writing the First Draft
    Topping and Tailing
    Publishing
  • Writing for Advocacy - contains advice on how to adapt core writing skills to lobbying or campaigning documents, looks at articles, leaflets, newsletters, pamphlets, press releases and posters. Sections include:Understanding Advocacy
    Media for Advocacy
Available to view online in English, French and Spanish.
