Global Trends Show Young People Faring Better But...

  • There are nearly 1.1 billion young people between the ages of 15 and 24.
  • Almost 90% live in the developing world.
  • Overall young people are better off today than previous generations with better education and 'unprecedented knowledge of the world around them'.

But...

  • In 2000, 22.5% lived on less than 1 dollar per day.
  • Young people make up 18% of the world's population but 40% of its unemployed.
  • 110 million youth are malnourished and 7,000 become infected with HIV each day.
  • Armed conflict during the last decade killed 2 million children, left 6 million disabled, and 12 million homeless.
