AIDS and AccusationHaiti and the Geography of BlameAuthorPaul Farmer
Publication DateMay 1, 2006
SummaryOriginally published in 1992 (reprinted in 1993 and 2006), this 372-page study attempts to link the events and structures of the world AIDS pandemic to the lived experience of people with AIDS in a poor society and those who live with them. This perspective is designed to allow the reader to see commonalities between people that transcend differences in culture or health status. In this context, Farmer asks whether the theory that HIV came to North America from Haiti stems from underlying attitudes of racism and ethnocentrism in the United States rather than from solid evidence.
