Training Package on Community Home-based Prevention of Disability Due to Lymphatic FilariasisSummaryThis four-part training package consists of a learner's guide, a tutor's guide, a flipchart and poster. The purpose of this training package is to provide a number of different training opportunities to train the trainers, train informal caregivers, and to assist with at-home education of Lymphatic Filariasis sufferers, their family, friends and neighbours.
According to information from the World Health Organization (WHO), Lymphatic Filariasis, known as elephantiasis, puts at risk "more than a billion people in more than 80 countries. Over 120 million have already been affected by it, over 40 million of them are seriously incapacitated and disfigured by the disease." This training package supports a WHO programme to eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis. This programme's two major objectives are to: stop the spread of filarial infection in all endemic countries; and alleviate and prevent the suffering and disability caused by the disease.
