Communicating with Adolescents about AIDS: Experience from Eastern and Southern AfricaPublication Date1997 SummaryThis book presents an assessment of HIV/AIDS communication tools aimed at the youth of Eastern and Southern Africa. The first half reviews the current status of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the region and its impact on youth and traces central themes in HIV/AIDS prevention and communication activities. The second half of the book describes specific initiatives in Malawi and Zambia that highlight creativity, determination, and partnership between adults and youth, communities and governments, and aid agencies and NGOs. The book discusses how these programmes are being carried out, the difficulties being experienced, and some of the successes achieved. Also included is a guide for evaluating HIV/AIDS prevention programmes among youth.
