  • Estimated world population in 2030: 8.3 billion.
  • Number of hungry people in the world in 2030: 440 million (world target for 2015 is 407 million).
  • Numbers of chronically malnourished people in sub-Saharan Africa today 194 million, in 2030 183 million.
  • Patterns of world food consumption are shifting towards expensive foods such as meat and dairy products.
  • Developing countries production of cereal, meat and milk will not keep pace with demand and they will become increasingly dependent on imports.
  • 70% of needed increases in crop production will come from higher yields, 20% from an expansion of arable land and 10% from multiple cropping and shorter fallow periods.
