2008 Excellence in New Communications Awards

The Society for New Communications Research (SNCR), a group which studies new communications tools, technologies, and emerging modes of communication, and their effects, is offering its second annual Excellence in New Communications Awards. The awards recognise innovative organisations and individuals
who are pioneering the use of new media and communications and social media (i.e. blogs, wikis, podcasts, collaborative tools and other forms of participatory communications)
in the areas of marketing, public relations and internal communications,
advertising, media, politics, entertainment, academics, and community and
cultural development.


Only individuals, businesses, and academic institutions are eligible to win the SNCR’s awards, but nominations may come from product vendors, consultants, and professional services firms worldwide. Awards nominations are to be submitted as case studies.


The awards will be presented at the
SNCR Research Symposium and Awards Gala, December 5-6 2007 in Boston, MA, United States. The
leading award winners will be featured in presentations at the Symposium
programme, and all of the award-winning case studies will be
published in the New Communications Review.


Awards will be granted in six divisions:

  • Corporate.
  • Government.
  • Media.
  • Nonprofit/non-governmental organisation (NGO).
  • Academic.
  • Professional (Individual).

and in seven categories:

  • Blog.
  • Podcast.
  • Video.
  • Wiki and Collaborative Tools.
  • Online Communities & Virtual Worlds.
  • Mobile Media.
  • Technology Innovation.




The intention is to honour new communications thinkers, bloggers, journalists, citizen journalists, and professional communicators; to recognize leading work/research/studies from students and academic institutions; and to honour organizations that are adopting new communications models and leveraging them for business purposes.


The deadline for application is September 28 2007.
