Communication and Social Change (CSC) Award, The

The Communication and Social Change (CSC) Award is an annual award given to an individual or organisation for contributions to the theory and/or practice of communication for social change. For 2007, the amount of the award is US$2,500. Major theoretical contributions, and applied communication practices that are illustrative of frontline change and long-term sustainable development will be considered for this award.



The goals of the CSC Award are to:

  • recognise major theoretical innovation and knowledge generation in the area of communication for social change;
  • acknowledge innovative and practical communication and social change projects that have contributed to sustainable development; and
  • appreciate the contributions made by individuals whose moral courage and commitment to communication for social change expands the boundary of the possible.

The awardee:

  • may be asked to present a public lecture or lectures at the University of Queensland, Australia;
  • will be expected to contribute his/her lecture given at the award ceremony for publication in the Journal of Communication for Development and Social Change; and
  • should be prepared to be interviewed by the media.

The nomination for this annual award will be made by the jury (consisting of staff from the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Queensland in Australia as well as eminent scholars in the field). While nominations can be submitted by individuals and organisations outside the School of Journalism and Communication, the final decision on the award of the grant will be taken by the Executive Board of the CSC Award.



Nominations are welcomed from inter-governmental organisations, international, regional and national academic and professional communication associations, international media networks and communication and social change consortia.



The deadline for application is November 1 2007.
