Transparency International, the global anti-corruption organisation, has opened nominations for its 2008 Integrity Awards that honour individuals and organisations that have demonstrated exceptional courage and outstanding leadership in fighting corruption. The awards recognise individuals and organisations from around the world that have risked their lives and their livelihoods - in the name of justice, transparency, and integrity - to unmask corruption and challenge people and institutions that wield enormous power. Past winners include journalists, public prosecutors, accountants, government officials, and civil society leaders. The nominee must have undertaken an action that is likely to significantly influence, or to have had a significant impact on, existing levels of corruption in their respective country or region.
