Deadline Date

July 6 2007

The Southern Africa Trust, in partnership with the Mail and Guardian newspaper, has announced the establishment of the Drivers of Change award. This award rewards and recognises individuals or organisations from across the southern Africa region that are making an impact in developing effective public policies and strategies to overcome economic poverty. The award is given in three categories:

  1. Civil society
  2. Government
  3. Business

The award was established to feature existing examples of innovative practices, inclusive attitudes and effective processes that build social trust and create the best conditions to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of people living in economic poverty.
Recipients of the award in each of the three categories will demonstrate:

  • innovation in the strategies used to develop better public policy;
  • policy work with a focus on making a real difference to the material conditions of people living in economic poverty;
  • attentiveness to, and significance of, overcoming economic poverty and inequality throughout the southern Africa region; and
  • inclusion of diverse voices, including voices of the economically poor.

Nominations will be accepted from individuals or from organisations. Nominees should be individuals in government or agencies of government, individuals in business or business organisations, individuals active in civil society organisations, or governmental and non-governmental organisations.
