The Global Junior Challenge (GJC) is a global award promoted by the Digital Youth Consortium, a non-profit organisation founded by the Municipality of Rome and six major information and communication technology (ICT) companies. The award aims to identify and reward best practices on the use of new technologies in education and training of young people. All projects that are using ICT for education and training of young people and were up and running by December 31 2004 can join the competition. The competition is open to schools and universities, public and private institutions, non-profit and youth associations, large and small companies, research centres, and individuals of any age.

Projects may be submitted in one of the following categories, projects for users:

  • up to 10 years old
  • up to 15 years old
  • up to 18 years old
  • up to 29 years old

Projects using ICT to help youth to find a job can join a dedicated category. The category 'Educating Cities' is dedicated to educational projects promoted by public local administrations.

In addition to the main GJC award, organisers are offering the Small Funds award, a prize dedicated to projects from economically poor countries. The winning projects will receive EU€ 5000 to spend on the implementation and the development of the project.
