CBA-World Bank Award for Programme on Development Issues

Region

Global

Deadline Date

August 1 2007

Sponsored by the World Bank and the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA), this award is for a radio or television feature that focuses on development issues - including those that are social or economic - or dealing with good governance or with technical or environmental initiatives, or the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations (UN).

According to the organisers, the "programme must be more than a simple narrative. It must be engaging for a wide audience, and focus clearly on a development issue. Production values will be taken into account. As part of the awards package the World Bank is offering global distribution of short versions of the winning programmes on UNIFEED and NewsMarket. (Unifeed is a global satellite feed that distributes footage on development stories to over 400 Associated Press clients, at no charge. NewsMarket is the web-based video platform that is used to post audio and visual material for broadcasters to download free of charge to use in their stories on development.) Global distribution will be subject to understanding on rights."

The minimum duration of the programme should be 10 minutes and the maximum duration must not exceed 60 minutes. The programme must be made or broadcast for the first time between October 2006 and July 2007.

Applications can be team or individual entries and programme entries may be in any language but they must be subtitled in English for television entries. Radio programmes in languages other than English must be sent with a clear text in English explaining the concept of the programme and its impact.
