Educational Projects to be Promoted via Television

Region

Global, South Asia

Deadline Date

March 31 2007

This is a competition for projects in Asia on education for sustainable development (ESD). The winning projects will be filmed by competition sponsor TVE Asia Pacific and profiled in the Saving the Planet television series. They will also be featured on a dedicated website. In addition, representatives from all the selected projects will be sponsored to attend a regional workshop in mid 2007, where they will receive a week's training in communicating through audio-visual tools and new media.

The television series, to be filmed during 2007-2008, will be offered to dozens of television channels across Asia. The series will also be distributed on video and
DVD to thousands of schools, universities, NGOs, training centres and research institutes.

To be eligible, the ESD projects need to be based in a developing country within the sub-regions of East Asia, South Asia or Southeast Asia. Click here for a list of eligible countries. Click here for the UNESCO definition of ESD.

The key criteria for judging the nominated projects are as follows:

  • Relevance to goals and objectives of ESD.
  • Innovation shown in project design, approach and methodology.
  • Accomplishments in project implementation.
  • Cost effectiveness: how the project has optimised on limited resources.
  • Replicability (can others facing similar situations easily adapt this approach?).
  • Visual appeal: to be featured in a TV series, how much the project offers in terms of filmable content.
