Awarded by the Sapling Foundation, three Technology Entertainment Design (TED) prizes are given each year to individuals whose work has the potential to have an impact on the future of the planet.

Winners of the TED prize receive the opportunity to be granted support to leverage their efforts towards the sustainable and widespread benefit of the global community. The TED community network will provide pathways, connections and logistical tools to the recipients. The goal is to assist them to facilitate their future work most effectively. The Sapling Foundation also donates US$100,000 for implementation of the work of each winner.

The candidates are selected through the TED panel of official nominators, as well as a limited number of public nominations, as described in the FAQ page of the website. These public nominations will require supporting documentation described in detail in the nomination form.

Winners are likely to have abilities in at least one of the following areas:

  • Invention;
  • Creativity;
  • Vision;
  • Leadership;
  • Persuasion; and
  • Determination.
