2007 National Academies Communication Awards

Region

Global, North America

Deadline Date

April 5 2007

The National Academies will present three US$20,000 Communication Awards to recognise authors, journalists, and producers who have demonstrated excellence in reporting and communicating science, engineering, and/or medicine to the general public through print, internet, radio, or television that has been published or broadcast in the United States. The prizes will be awarded to individuals in three categories - book author; newspaper, magazine, or online journalist; and television/radio producer or reporter.

The winners will be honoured during the Keck Futures Conference in Irvine, California November 15-18 2007. The winners will speak about their work during the ceremony. The Academies will pay travel expenses for the three winners to attend the conference.

To be considered for a 2007 National Academies Communication Award, the candidate's work must: be accessible to a broad audience of the general public; address issues and advances in science, engineering, and/or medicine; cover topics that have an impact on society; and have been published or broadcast in 2006, in the USA and in English. Children's books, magazines, or articles; reference books; textbooks; and entire websites are not eligible for consideration. Candidates must be individuals, not organisations.

Each submission requires a completed nomination form, which must be completed online. Self nominations are permitted; there is no nomination fee. Once the nomination form has been completed, applicants will receive an email confirmation of the entry and further instructions.
