iVolunteer India Fellow 2007CountryIndia RegionGlobal, South Asia Deadline DateFebruary 15 2007 iVolunteer is offering a 6-week summer rural fellowship programme for students ages 16-23 that sensitises urban youth to the rural development challenges that India faces today. As part of the fellowship, 60 students from metropolitan centres in North, West, and South India will be selected to undertake a 6-week placement (in pairs) with a rural non-governmental organisation (NGO), living and working with the rural community on social development projects. iVolunteer will provide financial assistance to each fellow in the form of a stipend to cover food and day-to-day expenses and reimburse fellows' travel expenses to the host NGO and back. Accommodation will be provided by the rural host NGO. iVolunteer is a not-for-profit organisation that connects volunteers with volunteering opportunities in India and abroad. Service centres in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore network with more than 300 non-profits across India to create opportunities for youth to work on diverse projects in the fields of education, self help groups (SHG), healthcare, microfinance, child labour, watershed management, biogas, child rights, ecology, village dynamics, public distribution system, panchayat raj, village mapping and water conservation and purification.
