The mission of the Kellogg Foundation is "to help people help themselves through the practical application of knowledge and resources to improve their quality of life and that of future generations." The foundation offers grants to proposals that fall within their programmatic interests.



Grants are made in the four areas of: Health, Food Systems and Rural Development, Youth and Education, and Philanthropy and Volunteerism. All programming in these four interest areas is tailored to meet the needs of each of the following geographic regions: Latin America and the Caribbean, Southern Africa, and the United States.

The focus of the grants is as follows.

Latin America and the Caribbean:

Regional Development

Application of Knowledge and Best Practices (Programmatic Approaches)

Southern Africa (Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe)

Strengthen Leadership Capacity

Strengthen the Capacity of Communities

Organisational and Institutional Development and Transformation

United States

Domestic programming centers on health, education, and agriculture as follows.

Application Information

Generally, the Foundation does not make loans and does not provide grants for: operational phases of established programmes; capital purposes (purchasing, remodeling, or furnishing of facilities and equipment, except as part of a programmatic effort); separate budget line items labeled as "indirect or overhead costs"; conferences; films, television, or radio programmes, unless they are integral parts of a project or programme already being funded; endowments or development campaigns; religious programmes; and individuals.
