Africa Free Media Foundation (AFMF)/ World Free Press Institute (WFPI) Trophy for Impartial Coverage

Kenya-based Africa Free Media Foundation (AFMF) (formerly Network for the Defense of Independent Media in Africa (NDIMA)) and US-based World
Free Press Institute (WFPI) are inviting entries from African Journalists for the AFMF/WFPI Trophy for Impartial Coverage Awards. The awards aim to encourage the media to offer balanced news and opinions and thereby promote democracy and peaceful co-existence in Africa.

The awards have three categories and are presented to media outlets which exhibit impartiality in covering war, conflict, election and politically motivated trials. The three trophies to be awarded include - one for the print media, another for broadcast and one for electronic media which will include the internet. Each trophy is valued at USD $1,000.

Application Information

Nominations for the awards are invited from all media houses through national and regional freedom of expression organisations. AFMF and WFPI will consider the nominations and make a final judgment.


Winners will retain the trophy for one calendar year then surrender it for presentation to the new winners. The presentation will be made in February 2007.
