The Girl Child Art Foundation, in partnership with the Public Affairs section of the
United States mission in Nigeria, invites entries for their poetry collection
"Poem & Perceptions". This will be the first edition of the poetry
compilation, and this edition will accept as many as 500 poems from youth in
Nigeria.



Youths, including students in secondary schools and higher institutions in
Nigeria, are eligible to participate. Youths in  Anambra state are
particularly encouraged to take part. There is no age limit for participating.



The aim of this project is to record different perspectives from the minds of different young people in Nigeria on HIV and AIDS related
issues. The organisers also wish to encourage young talented writers by publishing their works.



Themes for poetry submissions may be one of the following:

  • Issues around care and support, prevention and awareness, best practices, stigma
    related to HIV and AIDS.
  • Possible advice.
  • Personal experiences or fears on issues around our lives as youths.

The winning/published entries will receive prizes including awards, T-shirts, pens, books
and additional copies of the publication. Prizes will be awarded on the December
1 2005, to mark World AIDS Day.

Application Information

Submissions are welcomed in English language, pegin English, or any other Nigerian Language.
Each participant is allowed to send in as many entries as possible.




Entries should be submitted by the November 15 2005 deadline and should include
entrant's name, age, and contact information.
