The Population Media Center (PMC) will be awarding US$10,000 in prizes to cartoonists
working in the United States who "can best portray the relationship between human population growth and issues affecting the quality of life."

Cartoons may deal with the relationship between overpopulation and any of the
following...

Environmental degradation
Poverty
Biodiversity decrease
Food and water supply
Energy
Maternal and Child Health
National Conflicts

Application Information

The organisers list the following eligibility requirements:

Cartoonists must be U.S. residents, whose work is published in a U.S.
based publication.
Entries must have been published in a reputable publication
in the United States between September 10 2004 and September 30 2005.
Entries must be received by Friday, September 30 2005 at one of
the mailing addresses listed in the Contacts section below.

December 2005 update: Ann Telnaes, a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist, is the winner of the 2005 National Population Cartoon Contest. Telnaes' cartoon, "Washington Fashion Week," triumphed over 155 other cartoons to win the
US$7,000 grand prize. Cartoonists Mike Keefe and Jim Morin won second and third places in the 2005 contest, respectively. Mr. Keefe draws for The Denver Post and Mr. Morin for The Miami Herald.
