Programme SummaryThe general purpose of the project was to contribute to achievement and improvement in children's education - specifically of girls under the age of six - through the implementation and validation of an educational model directed towards adults that employs the strategic use of radio, in-person training, distance education and educational booklets. Communication StrategiesThe project implemented the following strategies and methodologies: At the end of each programme the educators, who had just received basic training on communication and radio techniques, produced and conducted news of regional and local interest. In 1998 the programme "Jardín Infantil a domicilio" (Kindergarten to Home), a complementary 10-minute television programme broadcast weekly and directed at adults, was launched. The educators within these "libraries" oriented the activities towards adults, and this was complemented with workshops for participating families (adults and children) in the programme. For these activities to be most successful, they included the participation of facilitators from the community. These libraries were meant to complement the radio and television programmes. Those families who listened to the radio programme but could not attend the toy library found some resources and assistance through these booklets. Development IssuesEducation, Children. Key PointsThe radio programme "Aprendiendo Juntos" initiated in 1997, developed in its beginnings in the community of Pintana, one of the poorest communities of the Metropolitan Region. Subsequently, the programme was dispersed in five regions of Chile, reaching a total of 4,000 families. Additionally, during 1998, the project was expanded with the television programme "Jardín Infantil a domicilio" that was implemented simultaneously in the five regions to reach an additional 2,000 families.
