The World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) is an international competition for youth-led projects that encourage the active participation of young people in the emerging Information Society. "It is the first global 'youth for youth' initiative for selecting and promoting best practice in e-content and technological creativity, demonstrating young people's potential to create digital opportunities."


The World Summit Youth Awards (WSYA) lies within the framework of the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society. Additionally, the winners will be celebrated at the World Summit Award Gala at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Tunis on November 16th 2005.


The World Summit Youth Award categories are Development, Creativity & Culture and Community Engagement. The award intends to promote:

  • the best e-content, developed by and for young people, that contribute to poverty reduction, environmental protection or social justice;
  • the best online knowledge resource and e-community, maintained for and by young people, that enables and encourages knowledge sharing;
  • the best e-platform, developed by young people, that aids or provides digital opportunities for disadvantaged and marginalised youth groups.

Application Information

The WSYA is part of the World Summit Award, a global initiative to identify the best projects in the field of e-Contents and applications. It is held in cooperation with the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2003-2005.



Online projects led by youth under the age of 27 are eligible for application.
