One World Media Awards 2005

Administered by One World Broadcasting Trust (OWBT), these awards aim to recognise news coverage that reflects the social, political and cultural life of people in the wider world. It exists to support those who use the media to offer a critical voice, and to bring home the realities of this world to audiences and readerships in the United Kingdom.


All entries should be concerned with social, political or cultural aspects of the developing world - Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East or the former Soviet Union. Entries must have been broadcast or published in a
recognised publication for the first time in the United Kingdom
between March 22 2004 and March 21 2005.


Entries from freelance journalists and independent producers, as well as from established media organisations are welcome.


There are 12 awards categories as follows:

  • broadcast journalist of the year
  • radio documentary award
  • tv documentary award
  • press award
  • new media award
  • local media award
  • popular features award
  • photojournalism award
  • women’s achievement award
  • children’s rights award
  • international premier award
  • special award for development media

Winners receive a trophy and a copy of the winning citation.
