2005 Internship/Volunteers Programme on Fundraising Issues at Friends of Orphans in Uganda

Friends of Orphans (FRO), a community-based charity organisation based in northern Uganda, in the war-torn district of Pader, is offering internship opportunities (unpaid) to undergraduates, graduates and the public at large with an interest in fundraising for FRO's new programmes. The internship is based in Jinja and Pader, Uganda. FRO works with resettlement communities, especially women.

Responsibilities and tasks include assisting FRO with:

  • fundraising activities and running workshops on fundraising issues;
  • participating at fundraising events;
  • developing the fundraising strategy of FRO;
  • grant proposal writing in English;
  • conducting workshops;
  • community-based activities like games, sports and basic skills training;
  • seeking funding from individuals, organisations, companies, business structures, international agencies, government bodies and private sectors;
  • public relations activities of FRO.

Application Information

The internship will run for a period of three months from June 1 to August 31 2005, full time and unpaid. Interns/volunteers are responsible for their own accommodation and living expenses. FRO will give information to interested people on accommodation and subsistence.


Applicants are eligible if they:


  • have skills on fundraising issues;
  • are above 18 years of age;
  • are knowledgeable on donors funding procedures;
  • are willing to travel and stay in a difficult environment (rural areas) once in a while;
  • have good interpersonal skills;
  • are interested in working with children and women.
