DevelopNet Iganga – UgandaCountry
Uganda
Programme SummaryThe project based in the Eastern Ugandan town of Iganga will open an Information Communication Technology (ICT) and research facility. The facility will assist between 100 and 150 local NGOs and CBOs to improve their service delivery by providing their employees the opportunity to learn how to effectively use ICT tools. Communication StrategiesA pilot period of free training courses was offered to ensure that the skills needed to maximise the benefits of the web transferred to the community. This aimed to simultaneously increase community participation and the independent ability of community members to access international resources. DevelopNet will provide public access Internet in Iganga, a rural part of Uganda. Through the project activities, civil society workers will receive training and knowledge needed in order to share ideas and work methods with others in their fields of work, as well as a central location in which to make such exchanges. They will also equipped to use the Internet to build global development partnerships, to seek out funding opportunities, and to communicate with already established donors and parent organisations. "The public, including local business owners, district employees and students will use the Internet café at an affordable rate while at the same time contributing to the development organisations who work in their service."
