Leadership for a Changing WorldRegionGlobal, North America, South Asia Deadline DateJan 7 2005 Leadership for a Changing World seeks to recognise, strengthen and support leaders and to highlight the importance of community leadership in improving people’s lives. The programme seeks to confirm that resourceful leaders are bringing about positive change in virtually every community. Together with these leaders, Leadership for a Changing World hopes to facilitate a new dialogue about community leadership, one that encourages others to appreciate that leadership comes in many forms and from many different communities. Each year, Leadership for a Changing World recognises 17-20 leaders and leadership groups not broadly known beyond their immediate community or field. Nominated community leaders may work in fields that include: economic development; community development; environment and environmental justice; human rights; citizen participation and government accountability; human development; sexual and reproductive health; education reform; youth development; religion and social change; arts and social action; and access to media, including new technologies. Leadership for a Changing World seeks to recognise and support leaders in the following ways:
Community-based leaders who are addressing tough social issues, but are not yet widely known outside of their own immediate communities, are eligible to be nominated. Nominees must be United States residents working on domestic issues, but United States citizenship is not required. They must have been working in the area for which they are being nominated for at least four years. Application InformationLeadership for a Changing World is a programme of the Ford Foundation, in partnership with the Washington-based Advocacy Institute and the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University. Nominations will be accepted by the Advocacy Institute through January 7, 2005. Leaders must be nominated by someone who is well acquainted with their work and can attest to their qualifications.
