Programme Summary

Located in Nigeria, the Centre for Communication & Reproductive Health Services (CCRHS) is a non-profit organisation that uses integrated multi-media communication strategies with emphasis on the use of Entertainment-Education (E-E) for social change. CCRHS works particularly in the areas of reproductive health and rights development, focusing on communication interventions in the following areas:

  • Transfer and share lessons from successful community development programmes both in thinking and practice; and
  • Support community-driven development approaches and sensitisation efforts in order to promote sustainability, participation, and ownership.
Main Communication Strategies
CCRHS provides advocacy and leadership necessary to protect and promote the health and social/economic circumstances of the people of Nigeria. The organisation takes action to guarantee the freedom of all citisens to enjoy and control their reproductive lives without hindrance or harassment.

To achieve these goals, CCRHS is involved in various activities. One special emphasis is youth development initiatives such as family life education and sexuality education for young people in secondary schools, promotion and support of state-based initiatives for tackling HIV/AIDS issues in schools, development of stakeholders' capacity for assessing the impact of HIV/AIDS on the education system (with advocacy and planning based on this), and support services for AIDS orphans. CCRHS also works to prevent unwanted pregnancies / criminal abortion, offers counseling to prevent and control HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), conducts community assessment, and conducts advocacy around child spacing and youth development.
