Programme Summary

A radio soap opera addressing many aspects of reproductive health including the relationship between reproductive health and traditional customs and medicine. The target audience were youth and young adults of the Aymara, people indigenous to the Bolivian highlands.

Communication Strategies

The radio soap opera Wila Kasta ("Line of Blood" in Aymara) will be broadcast in several installments reaching the high plains through popular radio stations. The languages used will be Aymara and Spanish. Several music concerts will promote the program regionally.

Development Issues

Reproductive health, sub-themes: first love, decisions about sexuality and health, pregnancy.

Key Points

Producers of the programme have taken great care to research the Aymara traditions and incorporate them into the broadcasts in order to support and respectfully portray traditional themes and issues. The show was projected to debut in June 1998.
