Programme Summary

This multimedia, mass communication project in Kenya emphasised the basic rights of men and women to control their own fertility and, therefore, the size of their families. The 3-year campaign was designed by a consortium of organisations to inform Kenyan couples that modern contraceptive methods are safe and to urge couples to communicate with each other about family planning.

Communication Strategies

The basis for this project was the conviction that a multimedia campaign is more effective than singling out only one type of media. It included: 10 radio appearances, a 92-episode radio serial drama (each 30 minutes long), community visits by field workers to rural areas, billboards, t-shirts, newspapers, magazines, and over 2,100,000 pamphlets posters and flipcharts.

Development Issues

Family Planning, Modern Contraception Methods.
