Programme Summary


A multimedia project whose objectives were to change behavior and to create significant advances in nutritional status in five countries. The strategy involved reaching the parents of young children with messages focussing on specific behavior changes, and reaching family members with more general messages to improve eating practices.

Communication Strategies



Target audiences were mothers and caretakers, fathers and family members, and secondary targets of health care workers and community leaders. Multimedia messages, counseling cards for targeting of messages, radio spots with dialogue programming, reminder sheets, cassettes, posters, a theme song, television documentary, and flip charts.

Child health, nutrition, general health concerns

Key Points



The focus was on five major areas: legislation regarding scale and use of milk and formulas, programs for on job and formal training, communication strategies, improvements to homemade foods, and issues such as food hygiene and child care centers. Obstacles were initially determined in the proper feeding of children and resources available. A significant decrease in nutrition related diseases resulted.
