Gender Watch - PakistanCountryPakistan RegionGlobal, Africa, South Asia, Western Europe Programme SummaryLaunched by SACHET (Society for the Advancement of Community, Health, Education and Training), Gender Watch is a television series designed to create awareness about gender discrimination. Specifically, the intention is to help people understand that discrimination on the basis of gender stymies the development of Pakistan as a whole, and to advocate that men and women work together to solve this problem. The series was geared toward members of the community in general, but young people (including university students) in particular. The series was also designed to appeal to policy makers, journalists, media personnel, and researchers. Communication StrategiesThe television series aired on Pakistan Television and Prime TV (UK), and is now available for sale in CD and video format. Gender Watch included an information segment, poetry segment, song segment, and gender post office segment. Discussion among hosts, meant to be entertaining, was also included. The programme always began with an introduction of the issue to be discussed. Interviews from the famous personalities and people in related field were conducted. Views from people on road were also included. Specific topics included the intersection between gender and education, health, the media, poverty, empowerment, employment, violence, family planning, AIDS, children, men, and the elderly.
