Ushikwapo Shikamana - KenyaCountryKenya RegionGlobal, Africa Programme Summary"Ushikwapo Shikamana", an entertainment-education radio soap opera, was originally aired between 1987 and 1989. In November, 1998 new segments of the soap opera began airing over Kenyan Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) airwaves. Communication StrategiesThe radio programme is now aired Monday and Wednesday with an omnibus on Saturday with back-to-back episodes. Plots revolve around 3 major settings in order to appeal to a wide range of audiences: urban ( a wealthy city littered with crime, loneliness, promiscuity and drug trafficking), peri-urban (a location with a myriad of problems including poverty, poor housing, and inadequate social services), and rural (a culturally conservative village which has a few individuals working together in order to change it). Characters move in and out of these locales as they try to negotiate their place in the world.
