Region

Programme Summary

Global Focus Films uses digital & internet technology to document the stories of communities successfully addressing problems such as HIV/AIDS, poverty, orphans, displaced persons, etc. GFF produced, "Not My Child: AIDs in S. Africa" in 2000 and is currently working on a documentary short about the struggles of the residents of a barrio in Cartagena, Colombia.

Communication Strategies

GFF documents community-based responses of impoverished, displaced, abandoned, orphaned and/or HIV-affected children and families through digital video, photo journalism, and web technology. Finished works highlight these responses for the use of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), communities facing similar issues, policy makers, and to educate a broader audience. By traveling to the heart of the communities they document, and by working directly with frontline leaders, activists, experts, and families, GFF develops a collaborative effort that encompasses key elements of an impacted area.

Development Issues

Economic Development, Rights, HIV/AIDS.

Key Points

By incorporating a broad spectrum of media (community web page development and consultation, video and audio streaming, printed materials, presentation platforms, digital slide shows and documentary shorts on VHS and CD-ROM) they strive to strengthen communities and organizations served.

Partners

USAID Child Survival Partners - CARE, CRS, Peace Corps, UNICEF, MCDI, SALFA, ADRA.
